Borage Seed Oil, also known as Starflower oil, is the richest source (up to 25%) of GLA (gamma linolenic acid) which is a very rare fatty acid and essential for the synthesis of regulatory hormones and body tissues.
It is a naturally effective treatment for dry and damaged skin and helps conditions such as eczema as it supplements the body’s own natural oils. Applying Borage oil is a great way to soothe sunburn and it can also be applied on the scalp if dry and scaly.
It is good for regenerating and stimulating skin cell activity and is very penetrating as it absorbs deeply into the skin tissue.
Borage Seed Oil can feel a little oily on the skin so it can be added it to a lighter carrier oil such as apricot kernel which will prevent this. Between 5% and 10% of Borage Seed Oil would be a good recommendation to start.
To prevent oxidation, Borage Seed Oil should be stored in a cool dark place. It is easily destroyed by heat, light, humidity, and exposure to oxygen. Refrigeration after opening is recommended.
